This glossary explains common terms used in Mini DC UPS, lithium battery backup and telecom/ISP power continuity projects. It is designed for buyers, product managers and technical teams who need a clear understanding before selecting a backup power solution.
A compact DC backup power device that supplies battery power to low-voltage equipment during mains interruptions. Typical loads include routers, ONTs, ONUs, gateways, CCTV cameras, and other DC-powered telecom devices.
BBU
Battery Backup Unit. A generic term for a power backup product designed to keep equipment operational when the primary power source fails. In telecom, BBUs are often integrated with lithium batteries for higher energy density and longer cycle life.
ONT / ONU
Optical Network Terminal / Optical Network Unit. These devices terminate fiber optic connections in broadband networks. They require backup power to maintain voice, data, and video services during outages, especially for critical users.
FTTH
Fiber to the Home. A broadband architecture delivering optical fiber directly to residential or business premises. FTTH networks rely on active CPE (like ONTs) that benefit from local backup power solutions.
CPE
Customer Premises Equipment. Equipment installed at the customer side, such as gateways, routers, ONTs, or modems. Backup power for CPE is essential for uninterrupted connectivity.

OCP
Over-Current Protection. A safety function that limits or shuts down the output current when it exceeds a predefined safe threshold. OCP prevents damage to the UPS, battery, and connected devices.
OVP
Over-Voltage Protection. A protection feature that prevents the output voltage from rising above a safe level. OVP safeguards sensitive telecom electronics from voltage spikes.
OTP
Over-Temperature Protection. A thermal protection mechanism that reduces power or shuts down the unit when internal temperature exceeds safe limits. OTP is critical for lithium battery safety in high-temperature environments.

BMS / PCM
Battery Management System or Protection Circuit Module.BMS manages charging, discharging, balancing, and monitoring of lithium battery cells. PCM is a simpler protection circuit commonly used in smaller battery packs. Both help prevent overcharge, over-discharge, short circuits, and thermal runaway.
SOC / SOH
State of Charge refers to remaining battery charge. State of Health refers to battery aging and performance condition.
UN38.3
A lithium battery transportation test requirement under the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria. It is important for international battery shipment. Compliance with UN38.3 is essential for international air and sea shipment of Mini UPS units.
CEI 62368-1
A safety standard for audio/video, information and communication technology equipment, based on hazard-based safety engineering. For Mini UPS products, IEC 62368-1 certification demonstrates compliance with modern safety expectations.

Temps de sauvegarde
The duration a Mini UPS can power connected equipment during a mains failure. Backup time depends on battery energy (Wh), load power (W), system efficiency, temperature, and battery age.
Pass-through Charging
A feature that allows the Mini UPS to power the connected device while simultaneously charging its internal battery. This enables continuous operation without disconnecting the load.
Seamless Switching
A fast transfer from adapter power to battery power when input power is lost. Switching time is typically measured in milliseconds (often <10 ms) to prevent connected equipment from rebooting.
